Finally some GOOD pictures of siding!

I finally took and now am posting some siding pictures...now that on whole side of the house is done.  I don't really have a lot to say (so unlike me), so I'll just post the pictures!  I LOVE MY SIDING!!!

Windows and Doors...YIPPPPEEEE!!!!

So we missed our inspection for yesterday b/c our windows didn't come in.....until yesterday!   But that was OK, b/c the plumbers and electricians had so much work to do they weren't really ready either.  So everything happens for a reason!   This whole week every one was still very busy getting ready for the inspection...plumbers, electricians and HVACers were all busy little bees!    John and crew gutted the rest of our house....the hallway, old bathroom and then when the windows and doors came in...they installed them!

First came the new side door to the mudroom...It's a Simpson Door and comes from the Bungalow series!  We will be staining it a dark wood color! 

Next came the siding delivery!!!  Looks sooo nice in the box!  Doesn't it?!?!?



















Then the windows and french doors came and John put them up immediately!  I have gotten sooo many compliments on these windows and doors in the 24 hours they've been up!   For those of you who don't know...they are Jeld Wen and apparently they are GREAT windows for a lot less than a lot of other windows out there!   The French Doors are Jeld-Wen also!

And finally today......some of the siding went up!   LOVE IT!!!!!!  Again, everyone that's seen this color says how nice it is..and what a great color we chose!  Anyone who talks to Joe about this color....he likes to think he picked it.... just gently remind him that HE WANTED BLUE.....I WANTED GREEN!  Please and Thank You!  :)

Sunday Funday!

Hi everyone!!!

Yesterday Joe and I went and looked at siding!  I was really nervous b/c I didn't know what to expect..we knew we were looking at HardiPlank and then some kind of vinyl...but deciding on a color was going to be the hardest.   Well, what I thought was going to be hard, was actually pretty easy.  The guy there showed us the HardiePlank and then 2 different types of CertainTeed and we decided HardiePlank was the way to go!  It had more pros than cons.....the only con was that it eventually would need to be painted (in like 15-20 years)..but in the end that could be a good thing b/c we aren't "married" to the color we choose...we can change it eventually with paint.   The color was a toss up between Evening Blue and Mountain Sage...

And we chose.....MOUNTAIN SAGE (the green one)!   They gave us a few addresses of houses in the area that have this color and we drove by and LOVED them both!    So our house will be Mountain Sage with white trim!

Day 5 -- Answers..Finally!

This morning started off with the last of the siding removal....and we now have a yellow (and ugly) house! We won't be choosing yellow for our new siding!



Dan made it to our house at 10am..and got straight to work with John on a plan for the septic hole and the lack of footings on the house......they talked for about 40 minutes and a plan was set in place, Dan left.......the mason got right on the phone with a concrete company around 11am (figuring it was a long shot to get concrete so last minute) and they said they'd be able to get it here around 1pm..SCORE!!!! 4:30pm and 2 truck loads later the hole was filled.

As for the footings..I'm not exactly sure. I think they are underpinning the existing house and then Dan is going to rework the plans, as far as framing goes, so the new house will hold more weight. I am normally a good listener when it's a subject interesting to me or that I understand. I am really trying to educate myself and listen to John when he talks, but sometimes he sounds like Miss Othmar (Charlie Brown's teacher). I think from now on I will walk around with a notebook! ;o)

So we did lose a bit of time.....digging should've been finished by now and we should've been ready for a Tuesday inspection, BUT we did get lucky with the concrete delivery. So by Tuesday the top of the hole should be removed (by jackhammer) and the digging can resume! Hoping for a Thursday inspection!

Day 2 -- More Demo!!!

So I woke up this morning to sunshine and a bright blue porta-john in my driveway! There are only certain circumstances where a person should be happy about a porta-john in their driveway and I think this is one of them......it helps that I know it's clean(for now).

So they finished up the siding in the back of the house and then the excavator came! I'm not sure if I was happy about this or not b/c I got NOTHING done today! Ava was mesmorized by the whole thing and we sat (together) on the radiator in the playroom and watched him remove the back patio piece by piece.......for almost 2 hours! I couldn't get her to leave.....he has a Big Bird doll hanging on the window of the truck and every time he swung the machine arm to put the pieces in the truck (to throw away) Big Bird would come around to see Ava...over and over and over again. And every time this happened we had to yell "KABOOM" and cheer! It was cute and fun for the first 10 minutes, but by the 11th minute I was ready for him to leave! The excavator is also a smoker...and every time he put a cigarette in his mouth Ava would look at me and scream..."E-POP!!!!" Yup.....she thought he was eating lollipops the whole the time and thought she needed to have one too, whenever he did. I finally caved after about an hour, which also got her to come off the radiator for a little bit, so I could vacuum and throw some laundry in. Then back to our perch we went for another hour and another "E-Pop!"

The back siding is pretty much gone and the patio is gone too! He also moved to the driveway side of the house and removed some of that siding! We are moving right along and making progress! Tomorrow "E-Pop!" comes back and starts digging. ;o)
